
FTA® is a reagent mixture composed of strong buffers, physical denaturants and a free radical trap. This patented formula is applied to a cellulose based matrix (paper), which has been optimized for the stabilization of DNA. The FTA treated matrix has the unique ability to kill blood-born pathogens and protect genome DNA from microbial and environmental damage and degradation, such as oxidation and acid damage, allowing for long term storage at room temperature and humidity. FTA was designed for bio-safety and high throughput DNA preparation. FTA was developed and patended by Dr. Leigh Burgoyne of Flinders University of South Australia and is licensed to Whatman BioScience. FTA coated paper and cards have been shown to provide a safe and convenient method for the collection, transport, processing and storage of whole blood, saliva (buccal epithelial cells) and other biological fluids. Designed for the collection, transportation and storage of DNA from biological fluids. Integral cover sheet protects the sample. Each card is 1.5” x 3” with one one-inch diameter circle on a 1.5” x 1.5” matrix; each circle can hold 100 to 125 µl of sample. 100/pk.
